Capoeira is a combination of martial art, dance, and rhythm of body and spirit. Originally, it was developed by slaves in Brazil in the 17th century, in order to disguise their training for fighting as a dance. In the past decade, it has been making its way into North merica, enticing westerners to learn the art. Today, many are identifying with Capoeira as a way of life, practising for more than 10 hours a week. This report explores how non-Brazilian people came to love Capoeira in Montreal, at a school called Pau Brazil.
