After a decade of war and instability, the people of South-East Europe are struggling to rebuild their devastated economies and reinforce their fragile democracies, in the shadow of a European Union that imposes "free trade" and political subservience as preconditions of development aid. • Strengthen alternative media and youth movements in Bosnia-Herzegovina, as a way of breaking the nationalist and foreign stranglehold on public debate.
• Support community groups and NGOs in Kosovo that are working to build a new country based on social justice, sustainable development and human rights.
• Improve conditions for refugees, displaced persons and ethnic and linguistic minorities, and involve these disadvantaged groups in the search for and implementation of long-term solutions to the region’s multiple problems.
