The Union Nationale des Travailleurs du Congo (UNTC) was formed in 1967 from the merger of all the pre-existing unions in what was then Zaire.
In September 1990, with the establishment of pluralism within the unions, the UNTC adopted new procedures, principles and structures during its third Congress.
The UNTC is led by a President, who is assisted by 5 Vice-Presidents coordinating various activities, as well as a Treasurer General and an auditing commission.
With the support of Quebec’s Confédération des syndicats nationaux, Alternatives has been helping since 2007 to promote women’s rights and involvement in the UNTC.
