Alternatives, in collaboration with the Ministère des relations internationales, is pleased to offer an assistantship position with our Québec Sans Frontières Program.

This placement will reinforce intern supervision for all interns participating in Alternatives’ QSF Programs for 2008-2009. The person will assist the internships programs officer to plan, organise and coodinate all activities related to these placements, including participant selection, pre-departure training, fundraising, partner organisation relations, intern contract management, pre-departure evaluations and return evaluation activities and debreifs. The person will also coordinate the arrival of overseas interns to Montreal through the project’s reciprocity agreement, including activities calendar and accommodations.

Project length : 30 weeks, from October 2008 to May 2009

Nature of contract: full time remunerated internship position (35 hours/week)


1. Mandate :

Under the supervision of the Alternatives internship project officer, the intern will be tasked to:
 Plan, coordinate, organise, supervise and evaluate activities Alternatives’ QSF internships activities.
 Participate in intern selection, pre-departure trainings, fund raising, intern contract mangement, predeparture evaluations, return activities, etc.
 Coordinate the arrival of the overseas interns to Montreal, as per the project’s reciprocity agreement (put together the activities calendar, accommodations, etc.)


2. Application criteria

Applicants must:
 Be no less than 18 years of age at the beginning of the placement and no more than 35 years of age at the internship’s deadline to apply.
 Have possessed a permanent address in Quebec for over the past year
 Be a Canadian citizenship or possess permanent residency status.
 Have a high school diploma
 Have already undertaken a ’Québec Sans Frontières’ internship.
 Have not already undertaken this particular ’Québec Sans Frontières’ internship with a sending organisation.

Knowledge and skills needed:
 Organisation skills
 Initiative
 Leadership
 Ability to work within a team
 Excellent communication skills
 Demonstrate a keen interest in development issues and North-South dynamics.

Other skills a plus:
 Understanding of the Spanish language
 Knowledge of Alternatives’ mandate
 Knowledge and interest in communications and alternative media, as well as urban agriculture.
