Alternatives actively works in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. It supports community initiatives in favour of economic, social and political rights, movements, as well as the people and the communities touched by poverty, discrimination, exploitation and violence.
Alternatives supports setting up networks for these groups to allow them to help one another. Setting up of networks is fundamental for it allows for the development of an analysis and the adequate comprehension of the harms affecting their community which originate elsewhere.

Appropriate Technology in Kinshasa
, 21 September 2003Within the framework of a project to renovate a centre for persons with disabilities in Limete, Kinshasa, Alternatives has recently launched a pilot experience (May 2003) aimed at promoting the use of adapted and less expensive construction technologies. Adobe brick (made of clay) is definitely cheaper to produce, but above all offers undeniable weather-resistant qualities.
