(Montreal) - An ad hoc coalition of major Canadian civil society and aid organizations is demanding that the Indonesian government immediately cease all non-aid related military operations in Aceh in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster. The organizations condemn the Indonesian military’s failure to adhere to a ceasefire in Aceh province and its role in hindering the delivery of emergency aid.
(Montreal, October 3, 2004) - In 1994, UNESCO designated October 5 as World Teacher’s Day to promote and thank teachers for the important role they play in society. This year, 20 teachers from 12 Quebec educational institutions will be in Palestinian Territory to participate in an international conference titled Education, Globalization and Social Change. It takes place in Ramallah from October 4 to 6.
Our position has never been equivocal on the necessity for a peaceful solution in the Israeli - Palestinian conflict, based on two States, secured in their borders and acknowledging each other. We have never hidden our disdain of violence, attacks against persons, disrespect for human rights and any unacceptable measures taken by either the Israeli government or the Palestinian Authorities. Palestinian NGO associations to which we are associated shared the same values, and have had trouble many times with Palestinian officials in the past. We have never shied away from that.

The directory aims at promoting communication, mutual understanding and the building of bridges between the social movements and networks from different countries and continents that are working on similar issues, or different ones.
Canada has a vital new window onto civil society — the non-profit organizations and social movements that have become essential guardians of the common good. In English, it’s known as OneWorld.ca. In French, it’s Unseulmonde.ca. Together, they debut today as the new Canadian edition of OneWorld.net.
